Sales Tax Review

July 2007

From Outgoing President

Dear Members,

I am charged with emotions, while I am writing this last message as the President of STPAM.

I will remain indebted forever of the members of our Association for the love and encouragement that they have shown to me.

At this moment I am having ambivalent feeling : feeling of happiness; and feeling of sorrow.

Feeling of happiness for what I could do for the cause of the Association and feeling of sorrow for the dreams which could not be realized till my presidentship.

Before reaching this prestigious post of President, I started my journey in the Association as a member of the Committee a decade ago. That time I had never dreamt that in the years to come I would become the President of this Association. No doubt, the dedicated services of ‘Joshi’ family to the Association in various levels weighed heavily in my favour at
the time of selection to the prestigious post.

Now, that the time has arrived to take stock of the items on agenda setforth by me for the year when I took over as President. They are :

  1. VAT Audit u/s 61

It was my top priority when I took over to see that the Audit will be allowed to all the
    members

  2. Regional Centres

  3. Seminars at district places in the State

  4. Launching of STPAM News Bulletin

  5. Felicitation of Senior members above 70 years of age

  6. Contributory Judgments on CD

  7. Compilation of MVAT Rules

  8. Compilation of book for beginners

  9. Group Insurance cover for members

Success and/or progress of each of the above stated programmes were intimated at regular intervals to the readers through the pages of this Journal.

During the last month following activities were undertaken:

Study Circle

On 5th July, 2007 we were fortunate to have with us the Hon’ble Commissioner of Sales Tax, Shri Sanjay Bhatia, who spoke on "Road map for the Sales Tax Department". Coincidentally, on the same day it was his birthday and we celebrated the occasion by cutting a beautiful delicious cake at his gracious hands. On the same day, we released five publications namely:

  1. Compilation of VAT Rules

  2. Study Material for Beginners

  3. Compilation of DDQ for the Year 2006

  4. Short Publication on HSN with schedule entries

  5. Tribunal judgments from January 2000 to December 2006 on CD.

Outstation Seminars

On 14th July, 2007, the 12th outstation seminar was organised for the first time jointly with Ahmednagar Tax Bar Association. The same was well attended by the local professionals as well as professionals from nearby district places too.

While I lay down my office of President and pass on the same to yet another dynamic leader, Shri Deepak Bapat, I leave with a feeling of satisfaction about the progress made on each of the programmes. There are, however, several loose ends which are required to be properly tightened up in future.

I wish all the best to the new team under the leadership of the new President.

Good Bye...

Tushar Joshi
President
