About Us

The Sales Tax Practitioner's Association of Maharashtra was formed in the year 1951. The Association is a Charitable Trust Registered with the Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra Mumbai, vide Registration No. F-2522 dt. 117-1972. The strength of membership is around 3500 members spread all over the state of Maharashtra comprising of Chartered Accountants, Advocates and Tax Practitioners, Practicing on Sales Tax and Allied Laws.

The main object of our association is to educate the public in general and the members in particular on Sales Tax and Allied Laws.

List of educational activities carried on by the STP Association of Maharashtra.

  1. Every month we publish a journal known as "Sales Tax Review" which contain articles written by our members and other legal luminaries on the subject of sales tax and allied laws. We also publish the gist of decisions pronounced by the Maharashtra Sales Tax Tribunal and High Court, along with the gazettes issued by the State of Maharashtra. This facilitates to spread up date knowledge of sales tax and allied amongst our members and public in general.
     

  2. At our library we make available the latest books on sales tax and allied laws in order to up date the knowledge of our members and further to keep track with the latest development in the field.
     

  3. We also hold study circle meetings, seminars and conferences on sales tax and allied laws under the banner of Sales Tax Practitioner's Association of Maharashtra, for our members and also for the general public connected with the above laws.
     

  4. We also publish and circulate amongst our members the judgment delivered by the Hon'ble Sales Tax Tribunal, Bombay and other High Courts and also the orders passed by the learned Commissioner of Sales Tax u/s. 52 of BST Act, 1959.
     

  5. We also conduct coaching classes for the benefit of the Junior Practitioners and intensive study courses for in-depth study for the benefit of our members.
     

  6. We also hold residential as well as non-residential refresher course for our members and the public in general for a in-depth study of a particular subject or topic chosen for study on the said occasion.
     

  7. We also make available to our members' Govt. gazettes and trade circular, issued by the Govt. of Maharashtra and by the Commissioner of Sales Tax respectively.
     

  8. We regularly publish short publications on the amendments carried out to Sale Tax Act, Sales Tax Rules and the schedule entries. These short publications are made available to the public in general at a nominal price on no profit no loss basis. These publications are very popular amongst the trading community.
     

  9. We also make representation to the appropriate authorities including the Govt. of Maharashtra, in the interest of trading community, to remove anomalies and difficulties in the administration of sales tax and allied laws.
     

  10. We are also appointed as a member on the advisory committee, Govt. of Maharashtra, to suggest and to recommend on the matters involving policy decisions. Our recommendations are always directed to promote the interest of the trading community.
